Distributive Property
The distributive property is used to make equations easier. For example, if you had a problem that looked like this: 5(42), you would use the distributive property. To use it, you would first have to make the problem look like this: 5(40+2). Second, you would make the problem look like this: 5x40 + 5x2=? Then, to make the problem even easier using the distributive property, you multiply 5 and 40, which is 200, and then multiply 5 and 2, which is 10. Now, your problem will look like this: 200+10. Your answer is 210.

The associative property of addition allows you to move the numbers around in groups to make the equation make more sense. For example, if you had a problem that looked like this: (3+4)+6=3+(4+6), than it would be the associative property of addition. Whenever you think of the associative property, than think of grouping.

The associative property of multiplication is pretty much the same thing as the associative property of addition, just with multiplication. An example of this is (3x4)x6=(3x4)x6.

The commutative Property of addition is a way to identify an equation. Also, it is a way to solve an equation. An example of this is: m+3=3+m. Whenever you see a problem like this one, think of order changes.

Simplifying Expressions
To simplify the expression 4(7x-3)+2x, you would first use the distributive property. First, you would multiply 4 and 7, which is 28, and then 4 and 3, which is 12. Your new expression looks like this now: 28x-12+2x. First, you have to combine the like terms, 28x and 2x. So, 28x+2x is 30x. So now your expression is 30x-12. This is your final answer because you cannot simplify the expression anymore.

Simplifying Equations
Equation #1
To simplify the equation 7x-10-9x= -13, you first have to combine like the like terms 7x and 9x. So, 7x-9x is -2x. So now the equation is -2x-10= -13. This is your two-step equation. To solve this two-step equation, you will have to add 10 to both sides of the equation. So, -10+10=0. And -13+10=-3. So now the equation is -2x=-3. To solve this, you will have to divide -2 from both sides. And -3-2=1.5. X is equal to 1.5.

Simplifying EquationsEquation #2
To simplify the equation !"#$#"#%#&#'#&&## #################################################(#####)#####*#####( You will have to simplify the equation. So, the common denominator out of 6, 3, and 2 is 6. So, 6 goes into 6, 1 time and 1 times 5x is 5x. Three goes into 6 twice and x times 2 is 2x. 2 goes into 6, 3 times and 3 times 1 is 3. Finally, 6 goes into 6, 1 time and 11 times 1 is 11. So now your new equation is 5x + 2x - 3 = 11. So now you have to combine the like terms. 5x plus 2x is 7x. So now you have 7x-3=11. Now, you have to add three to both sides of the equation. -3+3=0, and 11+3=14. The equation looks like this now: 7x=14. Now comes the dividing. You divide 7 from 14 and vwalla! The answer is x=2.

To solve and graph the inequality 2 ! # x ######################################################################+!# You will have to get rid of -5. To do this, you will have to multiply both sides of the equation by -5. So, -5 times -5 just gets rid of the -5, and 2 times -5 is -10. So right now we have the equation -10 ! x. But that is about to change. When you multiply or divide by a negative, then you have to flip the inequality sign. So now our equation is x ! -10. This is our new inequality. The next step is to graph the inequality. -10 is shown as larger than x. This is what it looks like:
Allen, Makenzie
70:56:81:af:81:35
To solve the inequality -4x + 4 " -8 you will have to simplify first. First, you have to subtract 4 from each side. So 4-4=0 and -8-4=-12. So the new equation is -4x " -12. So then after you get this equation, you have to divide -4 from -12, which is 3. Then, since you divided by a negative then you have to switch the signs. So your new inequality is x ! 3. Now we have to graph this solution. 3 is shown larger than x. So the graphing will look like this:

With inequalities, you graph them using an open circle or a closed circle. A closed circle would look like this:
The closed circle is used when the inequality sign looks like this ! or this ".

When you graph an inequality that uses the signs < or >, you have to use an open circle. This is what it looks like:
