5.2 Experimental Set Up

A new test setup was designed and fabricated in the structural laboratory of Karunya University to test reinforced concrete beam-column joint specimens. The test setup provided hinged boundary conditions at both column ends and applied axial and transverse loads using hydraulic jacks with load measuring arrangements. A deflectometer was used to measure deflection of the beam at the point of load application during pushing, pulling, and returning to the original position under controlled deflection conditions.

2 Experimental Set up The reinforced concrete beam-column joint specimens were tested in the structural laboratory of Karunya University. A new test setup has been designed and fabricated in structural laboratory of the department with the help of the department staff. Both the column ends were provided hinged boundary conditions. At one of the column ends, an a ial load was applied by using a hydraulic jac! of "## !$ capacity which has a load measuring arrangement fitted to it. A transverse load was applied at the free end of the beam by using a %## !$ capacity push pull jac!. A deflectometer was placed on the other side of the beam which shows the deflection that occurs at the point of application of load on the beam. The test involves push load was applied on the beam using the push pull jac! up to the controlled deflection. After that release the push load and apply the pull load by the same mechanism until the beam reached up to a controlled deflection. &ater the pushing load was applied until the beam comes bac! to its original vertical position. The deflectometer readings were noted at regular load intervals during pushing and pulling operations.
