Grade 6 Earth and Space Systems !

In this science unit, students must learn to assess the impact of space exploration on society and the environment. They are also expected to investigate characteristics of the systems of which the earth is a part of and the relationship between the earth, sun and moon. Lastly, they are expected to demonstrate an understanding of components of the systems that the earth is a part of, and explain the phenomena that result from the movement of different bodies in space. To show that the students have learned all of the required material in the unit, they will have a culminating task which they will have to complete once the unit is nished. ! This culminating task will require students to create a short story about space. In their nal package they must include a list of 15 things about space, with denitions, which will be used in their short story in some way. They will also need a completed plot graph, written on the page provided. Lastly, they will need a 2-3 page typed short story. This culminating task allows the students to combine all of their knowledge from the entire unit into a creative story of their choice. ! In this section of the package you will rst nd the explanation of the assignment as the students would receive it. Next, there will be a blank copy of the plot graph that students would need to ll out. After that, you will nd the rubric that will be used to mark this assignment. Lastly, you will nd a level 4 example including the 15 denitions, the completed plot graph, and the story.
