Ancient Greek architecture was influenced by geographical, geological, climatic, and religious factors. The geography of Greece bounded it between the Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea, with Athens as the center. Marble was the main building material due to the geology. The climate led to open-air structures. Religiously, the Aegeans worshipped nature while Greeks represented deities through large statues. Architecturally, early structures had flat or low pitched roofs and interior rooms, while later Greek temples were rectangular with colonnades and marble sculptures.
