LTC 4240: Art for Children Lesson Title & Big Idea*: Butterflies & the Life Cycle Lesson Overview/Summary*: Students will learn about the life cycle of a butterfly and create their own story of their life cycle. Grade Level*: 2 Class Periods Required: over a 2 week period for the science part.

For literacy, we will have a read aloud of the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. 2. For science, each student will track the life cycle of a class caterpillar. Every day they will write down observations and what is going on with the caterpillar, larvae, or butterfly. 3. For art, each student will draw their own life cycle using Eric Carles book for inspiration. They will have to think about their future to finish it, for example, what they want to be when they grow up, how many kids they want, etc. Closure (Reflecting Anticipatory Set): Students will share their picture books with the rest of the class.
