A Paradigm Shift - Pedagogy in an ICT Environment

Dr.Dilip Barad, Sr. Lecturer, Dept. of English, Bhavnagar University, Bhavnagar. Abstract This articel deals with an idea that we live in an era of information explosion. Once there was famine of information, today we are drowned in the deluge of information. Gale of change is blowing in the pedagogy of English Language Teaching (ELT). Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is a catalyst agent. The marriage between education and Internet technology has affected an extraordinary assault on perspectives about teaching and learning. The role of the teacher, the nature and context of learning, as well as the function and relative importance of course content have all been challenged and redefined1. Teachers and technocrats all over the world are in camaraderie. They try to meet huge expectations from many countries of how the combination of digital technologies and English language learning can contribute to effective ELT for students of other languages. Technological skills and the ability to use the current global language of opportunity and commerce are seen both as essential and connected. The article attempts to throw some light on various web 2.0 tools, M-learning, web-based learning environment and its usefulness in teaching and learning. It also refers to some experiments and research carried out in various Asian countries.
