Northside Middle School Band Lesson Plan Content and Achievement Standards
1. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music 2. Reading and notating music 3. Evaluating music and music performances

Class Goals and Objectives


Warm-up the band Make sure the students are playing their Staccato and Accent marks and Legato marks.

Materials
Parts for Grandfathers Clock Conducting Baton Score for Grandfathers Clock

Procedures
1. Teacher will great the band 2. Teacher will then have the band play an Eb major scale since that is the key Grandfathers Clock is in 3. Once the band has done that the teacher will have half of the group play the Eb major scale starting at the top and the other half at the bottom 4. After they have done this and are properly warmed-up the teacher will have them pull out their Grandfathers Clock music 5. The students will then listen as the teacher explains the difference between staccato, accent, and legato markings and how they should be played 6. After this the teacher will have the band play through the entire piece once to pick out the problem areas and go back and fix them 7. After the teacher has picked out and fixed all the problems with articulation that he can the teacher will do a final run through before class is dismissed

Assessment of Goals and Objectives


Assessment will be done through listening to how well the students in the band can do Staccato, Legato, and Accent marks in their music.

Follow up Lessons
Work more with different types of articulation marks throughout their music and new pieces the teacher will give them
