Distributed Systems: Unit 1: Introduction

This course covers fundamental concepts in distributed systems including models, communication, file systems, synchronization, fault tolerance, and case studies. The course consists of 5 units: 1) Introduction and models, 2) Communication protocols, 3) Distributed file systems, 4) Synchronization techniques, and 5) Fault tolerance. Students will learn about distributed object models, interprocess communication, distributed file systems, clock synchronization, distributed transactions, process resilience, and case studies on CORBA and clusters. Evaluation is based on a theory exam worth 100 marks. Recommended textbooks are listed.
