1782 France, Joseph Michel Montgolfier filled
silk bag with hot air
• It rose to the ceiling because air in the bag
was less dense than air around it
• April 25, 1783 Joseph and his brother Jacques
Etienne built a larger bag filled with hot air
from a fire
• They put several farm animals in the basket,
then they created a bigger model, on
November 21, 1783 in Bois de Boulage Paris
they launched a 70 foot balloon
• They lifted 3000 feet and stayed in the air
for 28 minutes travelling 5 miles controlling
First Steam Powered Car
• First Automobile theory started
with Leonardo Da Vinci and
Isaac Newton
• First self-propelled road vehicle
was created by French
engineer and mechanic,
Nicholas Cugnot
• He used a steam engine to
propel it

move artillery for the French

improved version of the Steam engine that
lead the Industrial Revolution
• The idea of using steam to propel boats first
came after James Watts new engine
• Steam boats became popular in America in
1787 when John Fitch tested his forty five foot
steamboat on the Delawore River on August
22, 1787
