Kalaryot English

This stage play tells the story of Kalaryot, a hero from a small Filipino village. He was raised with strong traditional values like family and nationalism. When American soldiers killed his family and loved ones, he sought revenge against them. However, his revenge cost many lives on both sides. Ultimately, Kalaryot was caught and executed. Though his story is tragic, he inspires others to fight for what is right. The play suggests that while seeking justice is admirable, revenge often does more harm than good and there are usually better solutions that avoid bloodshed.

In every natural calamity that strikes our country, we experience the tragedy and the horror that it brings

to us. But there is one person that emerges to saves us from tragedy. That is what you call a hero. In this stage play entitled Kalaryot, there is a very good example of what you called a hero. He is Kalaryot. Kalaryot was raised in a small village that lived a very simple life. He was raised by his non-real parents but despite of this, he is a blessing to them by God. Kalaryot has grown into a lovable, helpful, kind, brave and a family-oriented person that was very similar also to the values that you can reflect in real hero. There are a lot of traditional Filipino values that you can see in his personality such as having a close relationship with our family, having nationalism in our country and being brave at what you are fighting for is right. This is still evident in us today. I became sad when Kalaryot lost his family because it was hard for anyone of us to lose our real family or not because they gave an unconditional love and care. We should be strong and learn how to move on even if it is not easy. Kalaryot eventually lost most of his loved ones. It was caused by the cruelty of the American soldiers. This made him avenged for his loved ones in a cruel way. Kalaryot was eventually caught and was executed to death which made me sad but I admired Kalaryot because he did not surrender and still fought on what he believed is right. Kalaryot is an inspiration to many people that is still fighting the same as Kalaryot but what happened to Kalaryot and his men and the American soldiers proved to us that seeking revenge does not do any good to us. It will cost a lot of lives. There is always an alternative way in achieving what you are fighting in which no more lives will be lost. All of us can like Kalaryot. When you help other people in need it doesnt matter how big or small is your contribution but what matters is that it is very sincere and comes from the bottom of heart.
