Limestone

Limestone is a sedimentary rock that is mostly made up of calcium carbonate. It is commonly used as a building material in construction, to make glass, improve soil fertility, and in the tourist industry. Limestone can be easily cut and quarried, and is an abundant natural resource. It is used to make cement, mortar, concrete, and quicklime, which is used in glassmaking. Powdered limestone can be added to acidic soil to neutralize acid levels and improve fertility.

calcium carbonate

Buildings

Making glass

Uses of Limestone

Improving soil fertility

Making concrete

And even the tourist trade

Limestone is easy to c__________ and is a_____________

Powdered limestone + clay (heat) cement

Cement + sand mortar

Cement + pebbles concrete

Limestone (heat) calcium oxide = quicklime

Quicklime and sand are used to make glass

Powdered limestone is sometimes added to soil if it is too acidic

The limestone neutralises acid in the soil
