Implant-Protected Occlusion: A Biomechanical Rationale.: Misch CE Bidez MW
The document discusses the concept of "implant-protected occlusion", which refers to an occlusal scheme specifically designed for dental implant prostheses. It explains that the clinical success of dental implants depends largely on the mechanical environment in which they function, with occlusion being a critical component. The authors propose a biomechanical rationale for implant-protected occlusion that considers factors like implant orientation, load direction, surface area, occlusal table width, and protecting the weakest areas to provide a framework for a specific occlusal philosophy for implant prostheses.

Implant-protected occlusion: a biomechanical rationale.
Misch CE, Bidez MW. Author information Abstract The clinical success and longevity of endosteal dental implants are controlled, in a large part, by the mechanical milieu within which they function. The occlusion is a critical component of such a mechanical environment. "Implant-protected occlusion" refers to an occlusal schema that is often uniquely specific to the restoration of endosteal implant prostheses. Implant orientation and the influence of load direction, the surface area of implants, occlusal table width, and protecting the weakest area are blended together from a biomechanical rationale to provide support for a specific occlusal philosophy.
