History of Trigonometry
The word trigonometry is derived from the Greek
words tri(meaning three),gon (meaning measure) and metron (meaning measure). In fact, trigonometry is the study of relationships between the sides and angles of a triangle. The earliest known work on trigonometry was recorded in Egypt and Babylon. Early astronomers used it to find out the distances of the stars and the planets from Earth.
Trigonometric Ratios
The ratios of the sides of a right triangle with respect to its acute angles, is called trigonometric ratios of the angles. Trigonometric Ratios are as follows: Sine of ang. A= side opposite to ang. A /hypotenuse= BC /AC Cos of ang. A= side adjacent to angle A/hypotenuse=AB/AC Tan of ang. A=side opposite to angle A/side adjacent to ang. A= BC/AB
Cosec of ang. A=1/sine of ang. A=hypotenese /side opposite to ang.
A=AC/AB
Cot of ang. A= 1/tangent of ang. A=side adjacent to angle A/side
Trigonometric Identities
An equation involving trigonometric ratios of an angle
angle formed by the line of sight with the horizontal when the point being viewed is above the horizontal ,i.e., the case when we raise our head to look at the object.
being viewed is the angle formed by the line of sight with the horizontal when the point is below horizontal level, i.e., the case when we lower our head to look at the point being viewed .
