Hellings 1 Clifford Hellings Junior Honors English 2A Monday, February 10, 2014 Argument essay Should schools have

a dress code? Do you like dress codes? Well obviously it may not be appropriate to allow children to roam the hallways naked, so applying some limitations would be beneficial. Those limitations however, should not be very limiting. For example, a child dying their hair blue should be perfectly allowed as it is not a direct disturbance to those around the child. Well by enforcing school dress codes around the nation, this is exactly what we would be doing. Therefore, I am completely for the idea of school dress codes. Over the past decade, the school dress code has become an increasingly common policy in many communities worldwide(http://www.koshercasual.com). They would ensure that a students' dress is acceptable for school, keep students safer in science laboratories and even help to prepare them for their future life out of school. History of Casual Dress Code Polices. Casual dress code policies became popular in the mid-1980s in technology companies. The technology boom in Silicon Valley Dress Code. Promoting the Educational Mission The Central Valley School District Board of Possible Response: Due to discipline history and repeated violations.

First of all, dress codes are a good idea, because it limits the usage of inappropriate or offensive clothing. Such examples are low cut shirts, or sagging pants. This is because many people these days get very upset or even violent is certain cloths are worn in certain ways. This is because most if not all the time what you were is chosen to make a statement about you or what you like. Also with all of the peer pressure most students are worried about fitting in; with a dress code enforced there would be less fitting in to worry about and more emphasis on learning. Second of all, a dress code can keep you safe. Dress code, which keeps you safe, is because most if not all gangs were certain cloths to signify there gang. By restricting some of these cloths it may reduce the violence in schools. Also dress code may provide protection in say chemistry, things such as closed toed shoes and well fit clothing may protect you from a chemical spill, but however the cloths that you were may also keep you warm in the cold weather. Perhaps the most important benefit of having dress codes would be creating a better learning environment. Inappropriate clothing can be distracting to other students who are trying to concentrate. Short skirts, skimpy tops, and sagged pants are fine for after school, but not for the classroom. T-shirts with risky images or profanity may be offensive to certain people or groups. Students should express themselves through art or creative writing, not clothing. With fewer distractions, students can concentrate on getting a good education which can help them later on in life. Furthermore, dress code can help you when you graduate, I hope. The nature of professional dress is somewhat tied to your industry (http://smallbusiness.chron.com). Out in the real world when you are looking for a job the employer will be looking at how you dress, they want someone who dresses respectfully not someone with sagged pants or super low cut

shirts. This is because Dress codes are written and, more often, unwritten rules with regard to clothing (http://en.wikipedia.org). When you get a job they will have a strict dress code, they will enforce it. If you choose not to follow there dress code rules that have been set in place they will most likely fire you, not just warn you like in school. Nevertheless dress code doesnt let students express who they are, or at least limits how they express themselves. we fought and won from England. In the Constitution it says freedom to express, so let us express whether we are mental or sane, we have rights (http://www.debate.org). In some places in the United States they dont need as many dress code limitations. This is because there is less violence or the weather is different, so students would like to dress lighter or cooler. To rap it all up, I am for dress code. Dress code keeps the learning environment or work place enjoyable along with casual. Also dress code can help to keep you safe, weather from a piece of glass on the ground or from a gang member thinking youre a rival gang member. Also it teaches you skills on how to dress when you graduate and find a job to start your life. Those are the reasons why I am for dress code.
