Week No. 05 Lesson Name Reamer

REAMER
Use:- Reamer is used enlarging by finishing previously drilled hole to accurate size. Material:- High speed steel or High carbon steel.
Tang Shank Recess Taper lead

Hand reamer:- Reaming by using hand reamer is done manually for which great skill is needed. Hand reamer have straight shank with square at the end, for holding with tap wrench. Flutes are cut on the body of reamer to make cutting edge. These flutes either cut straight or spiral shape. Holes having slots or groove cut in it, the spiral fluted reamer is recommended.

Machine reamer:- Machine reamers are provided with Morse taper shank for holding on machine spindles. Machine reamers are fitted on spindles of machine tools and rotated for reaming.

Pilot reamer:- Front portion of this reamer is ground cylindrical. Pilot provides the guide for reamer to operate in proper alignment with hole
Socket reamer:- Body of these reamers are made taper to suit Morse taper. They are used for reaming Morse taper holes.

Shell reamer:- Body of these reamers are made hollow. It is fitted in arbor of machine to use on machine.

Taper pin reamer:- It is used to ream hole for taper pins. Taper given on this reamer is 1:50. Expansion Reamer:- These reamers allows some adjustment on their size. They are used for repairing only.
