Power Factor Correction

The document provides steps to calculate the power factor correction required for an electrical installation. It details calculating the actual load in kW, required power factor correction in kVAr, and actual power factor correction in kVAr. Typical power factor corrections are available in multiples of 25 kVAr. Correcting the power factor can reduce current, load, and provide annual CO2 savings.

Power Factor Correction Calculation

Follow the Steps Below to Calculate the Power Factor Correction required for your installation. Click-On Cells with Blue Text to Modify Values, Results will be Displayed in Green

Step 1. Calculate Actual Load (kW)

(Load) Power kW = Volts V x 3 x Current I x Power factor Pf Non-Corrected Load (kVA) Actual Load (kW) 692.8 415.7 400 1000 0.600 Nominal Voltage (V) Non-Corrected Current (Amps) Non-Corrected Power Factor (Cos)

Figures for Current (Amps) and Power Factor (Cos) can be either Measured or Calculated

Step 2. Calculate Required Power Factor Correction (kVAr)

Power Factor Correction kVAr = Power kW (Tani - Tand) i = Cos Initial Power Factor Pf d = Cos required Power Factor Pf Correction Required (kVAr) 417.6 415.7 0.600 0.950 Actual Load (kW) Non-Corrected Power Factor (Cos) Required Power Factor (Cos) Correction kVAr Power kW

Step 3. Calculate Actual Power Factor Correction (kAVr)

Actual Power Factor Correction Pf = Cos (Tan (Tani Corrected Power Factor (Cos) 400 415.7 0.600 )

0.938

Correction Applied (kVAr) Original Load (kW) Non-Corrected Power Factor (Cos)

Typical Power Factor Correction available in multiples of 25kVAR's, for further details please Contact Blakley Electrics Technical Department.

Energy Savings for Above Power Factor Correction
