Hermann Samuel Reimarus

Hermann Samuel Reimarus was a professor of oriental languages at the University of Hamburg in Germany who wrote around 4000 pages privately criticizing and analyzing the Bible higher criticism. After his death, his friend Gotthold Ephraim Lessing published some of Reimarus' works in seven fragments. One fragment, titled "The Aims of Jesus and His Disciples", suggested that Jesus was a failed Jewish revolutionary and that his disciples stole his body to spread the story of his resurrection. The 1868 Bengali edition of the Bhagavata Purana printed in Bombay and reprinted by Jag Publishers in 2002 contains all the main features of the original four manuscripts on this important Hindu text.
