Summary Of Research Done General L Information About Music Magazine

Music magazines reflex the time they are created, they focus in on what's hot and current making it modern and therefore likeable to the audience. Although the pop genre has been around for a while it is fairly current in comparison the other, aged genres. However it is important to realise that what's popular and hot know may change in 10, 15 years time, meaning that magazines must change to survive, in order to continue their sales. I first started off looking at a music magazines front cover, double page spread and its content to give me some ideas into magazines general conventions and its content. From this it was required of me to look at magazines that where of my genre, therefore I chose we love pop and top of the pops as these are pop magazines. This expanded my idea of (pop) conventions, thus allowing me to get a better idea into pop magazines design and content in order for my magazine to attract its audience. Magazines must also be aware of possible publishing companies to print its magazine. I therefore researched into NME's publisher IPC's history to see why it was appropriate for NME's genre of music. I then when on to looking at pop publishers like Egmont we love pops magazines publish in order to make sure they where appropriate for my audience. It is very important to choose the correct publisher as they are in charge of the printing possess. You need to make sure your publisher supports your genre and has knowledge into it as this could jeopardise how attractive your magazine is to your audience. My magazine will need to attract my audience in its content and design. In order to find out what my audience would want to see in my magazine I researched into pop history, which gave me more detail into the genres evolution in order to find out what's current and treading in the pop genre. For example also we'll as publishers I looked at pops fashion, make-up, interviews and mise en scene of pop stars images, taking me into my questionnaire which I gave to my audience to get an idea into what they would want to see. From this it was appropriate to do a focus group which further gave me more details into what my audience of 12-16 year olds would like to see in a pop magazine. From researching these things they helped me understand basic conventions which I shall appeal to my magazine to make it appear professional and like a typical pop magazine Although I have researched pop magazines, allowing me to gain knowledge into how to design my own magazine, it is important to recognise that my magazine must have its own individual style which should make it stand out from other magazines, increasing its likelihood of selling. Also I have looked at previous pops content e.g. its articles/interviews I have learnt that my magazine must contain gossip due to my audience of teenagers not only being interested in the music but also in the lifestyles of its stars. By appealing this to my magazine it should interested the reader whilst also entertaining them.

Task 9 Formal proposal

Title of my magazine I wish to produce
Have decided to call my magazine Gosspop due to the positive responses I got from my target audience in task 5 and also because I favour it the most. It is a combination of Gosspop and pop music two things I would expect my audience to love in the magazine. It is unique and stylish, making it appropriate for my audience.

Explanation of my chosen genre

my chosen genre is pop and I found that... Pop music originated in the 1950s It derived from rock and roll Pop music has changed over time, meaning that its target audience has also changed. The pop genre usually has a younger however its mainstream therefore is popular in society also Pop magazines contains mostly question and answer articles Its artists make up and fashion is popular in shops, allowing the target audience to purchase them when aspiring to look like them.

The Target Audience

My target audience are 12-16 year old teenagers. They will not have a disposable income, relying on their parents to buy their magazine what are they interested in? My target audience will be interest in large amounts of images over text and enjoy informal language was they use it themselves, making them feel closer to the magazine. The image on the front of the magazine is the selling point which the audience will be most attracted to, even more so if they are in the styling of current pop artists, seeing them as role models to aspire to be like. They are unlikely to subscribe to a magazine due to being in education which would most likely take up their free time and also due to the parents primarily buying their magazines, making them unlikely to subscribe to a magazine which will not be for them enjoyment of themselves. They love to read about gossipy information therefore my magazine will contain celebrities interviews, makeup advice and fashion to attract them. How do they hear about music new? As they are stereotypically more interested in the internet that visual copies my magazine will also have a website to attract them to my magazine.

Task 9 Formal proposal

Cost of magazine? My magazine will cost about 2.49 making it affordable if my target audience where to buy it for themselves and low enough for the parents of my target audience to buy it for their children. Role of parents in my music magazine? Although my magazine is targeted towards teenagers it is important to recognise their parents, especially for the younger side of my audience. They will primarily be the ones who buy my magazines, therefore if they where to redeem my magazine as inappropriate they would be reluctant to buy it for their child. However this shouldn't be a problem due to the content and design of my magazine attracting my target audience, making it childlike with the bright colours and age appropriate with its gossipy content
