Educ 513 Digital-Age Reflection
Century class is extremely important for teachers to explore with their students. Technology is prevalent in todays society and students are growing up as digital natives, so the familiarity with technology is already there, but is is essential to make sure students know how to properly use technology in an educational and beneficial way. Teachers today need to be prepared to use the technology they have in their classroom to align with the Common Core Standards. Some teachers may use technology in their classroom as a crutch which needs to be changed, technology need to be used as another way for students to be able to understand and engage in the content and should be implemented in the most effective ways. Technology is constantly changing so it is important and teachers to make sure we keep up to date with the most effective ways to implement technology in the classroom to best fit the needs of all your students. Before we expect our students to become aware of digital literacies it is key to have teachers be literate in technology. Teachers are to set examples of how to properly navigate technology and how to do so in an educational way. I think so teachers are still reluctant to use technology to benefit their teacher because they feel their traditional way is the only way. We need to be able to convince these teachers of all the benefits incorporating technology can have on a 21st Century classroom. Before beginning the digital teaching and learning program, I was no where tech savvy as I am now, and I still have so much to learn. Coming into the program I hoped to gather as much knowledge as possible on the different ways to integrate technology and the program did just that. As I began the program my philosophy has always been all students can learn. All of our students have the ability to learn in their own ways and have a capability to understand what is being taught. The program has just added to my philosophy. Taking the EDUC 522 class I was able to explore Gardners Multiple Intelligences, which I believe has been one of the most beneficial things I have learned

throughout the program. Now I can clearly see what intelligences all of my students have which has allowed me to alter lesson plan to best fit their needs. My philosophy now also includes the use of technology to enhance learning. I have been a firm believer from the beginning that technology can be used as a fantastic tool to encourage and engage student learning. The different now is that I know how to implement these technologies for students in my classroom. This program has opened up my eyes to the many ways technology can be incorporated in the classroom to align with the Common Core Standards. It has given me the resources and tools to teach my student from a technology stand point. Since our students are already familiar with technology in their own ways, now it is important to make sure they can see the benefits of using it educationally. I am coming away from this program with the knowledge of how beneficial technology is in a K-12 environment. Once I am equipped with technology in my own classroom I now have the foundation of how to use it properly to encourage student learning. I am a lifelong learner and am excited to continue to explore new technologies and different ways to integrate it into my future classrooms.
