One of the only places where a person can be and still hear a bell, alerting those to the time and the change about to occur, is the school. Schools are expected to be places of efficiency, and communication and organization are vital to that idea of efficiency. In the past two years, I have had many responsibilities where I needed to communicate times and places of meetings, update the staff regarding a planned day, and begin and end a meeting so that teachers could still have time in their classrooms. Throughout my planning, I was aware that not always everyone would be available to read an email or be present at a meeting, so I always had back-up plans for that. As a leader, I think its extremely prudent to have a back-up plan for your back-up plan. Furthermore, I am fortunate to have several colleagues who have been able to provide support and ideas for those events. My artifacts include my data team minutes from the meetings we held during the 2012-2013 year. Each meeting included referring to our groups norms, which included showing up on time and keeping distractions minimal. It was important that everyones time was treated with respect, as we met during the last part of the day and sometimes personal and professional issues would arise. Furthermore, as the Language Arts group, we worked on creating common formative assessments to better serve our students instructional needs, an initiative that has had lots of support in our district.
