12.6 INSPECTION AND CLEANING OF SYSTEMS
BEFORE INSTALLATION
‘Because foreign materials that yess into and through pres-
swe-relief valves ean damage the valve, the systems on which
the valves axe tested aud finally installed must also be
inspected and cleaned. New systems in particular are prone to
contain welding beads, pipe scale, and other feign objects
tbat imlvertenly get tapped during construction and wall
destioy the seating surface when the valve opens. The system
should be thoroughly cleaned before the pressue-rlif valve
is stalled
Pressuetelief devices should be removed or isolated
before hydrotesting or pmeumatio presswe testing of the sys-
tem, either by blaneng or closing an isolation valve. If an so-
Jaton velve is wed, the flanges between the isolation velve
and the presswe-relief device should be wedged open ar a
bleed valve provided so that imivertent lealang tinough the
isolation valve does not damage the pressiwe-relie device
