CentOS Installation

This is a demo installation (VMware Virtual Machine) with 1 GB RAM & 20 GB Hard disk space.

Network Setup:
IP Address: 192.168.1.20 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 DNS: 192.168.1.1 Hostname: server.example.com

Note: Please modify the above parameters wherever necessary according to your setup.

CentOS Step by Step Graphical Installation Guide


1. Boot your system with the CentOS Installation CD/DVD. Select Install or upgrade an existing system,

2. Choose Skip and press Enter, (Press Tab to toggle between options.)

3. CentOS Welcome Screen click Next to proceed,

4. Choose English as your Installation Language click Next,

Select US English as the Keyboard Layout click Next,

6. Select Basic Storage Devices click Next,

7. Select Yes, discard any data and click Next ,

8. Network Configuration Part 1,

Part 2,

Finish the Network Setup,

9. Select Time Zone,

10. Give a root password.

Final Partitioning Layout,

12. Select Format and click Next to proceed,

13. Select Write changes to disk and click Next to proceed,

14. Boot loader choice, click Next to proceed,

15. Choose Minimal Desktop and select Customize now to custom select additional software packages,

16. Customize the package selection according to your requirement; here we are only selecting those packages which are necessary for this system to act as a Web Server. Click Next to proceed,

17. Installation started, this may take several minutes as per selection of packages,

18. Installation completed, Please remove CD/DVD and reboot system,

Post-Installation Configuration
Click Forward to proceed,

Click Forward to proceed,

Create User,

Set Date and Time,

Disable Kdump click Finish to reboot the system one more time.
