Early Childhood Education Learning Experience Plan Name: Bre Hale and Annemarie Fisher Lesson Title: Which Materials Float or Sink in Water?

Pre-assessment of current knowledge: Kindergarten Readiness Checklist reflects abilities and ACCESS Implementation Guide notes on interests Instructional Objectives (1-2) One/Two Assessed Instructional Objective(s): The student will be able to... 1) sort objects based on whether they will sink or float. 2) make predictions about whether the object will sink float. Assessment of Student Learning Identify Evidence: (What will you collect or record as data to demonstrate students have met your objective(s) and skill?) 1) have a checklist for each objective and record if each student is able to complete the objectives. 2) take pictures of sorted objects. Learning Experience Academic Language: Sink, Float, Predict, Sort, Materials Procedural steps: 1) Spread out objects you, the teacher, have gathered from the classroom and brought from home, onto a table where the students can observe and see them. 2) Pick one object and ask the students if they think the object will sink or float in the water 3) Make two groups, one of items they think will sink and one they think will float. 4) Test their prediction in the water table 5) Then everyone will re-sort the objects based on if they will sink or float - have students place objects that floated on one small group table and then what objects sank on the other small group table 7) Regroup and have students explain why they think some objects floated and some sank.

Safety Considerations: - make sure they do not throw the objects. - do not leave children unattended around water.

Program Monitoring: (How will you aggregate or compile your evidence into a class or group view?) - Whole class aggregation data sheet, showing preassessment vs post-assessment progress.

Authentic Materials: (Describe authentic real life, hands-on materials.) 1) water table 2) 17 objects they use daily in the classroom (such as a cork, crayon, cotton ball, feather, small plastic toy, paper, twigs, and crumpled ball of aluminum foil, just to name a few) 3) water Adult Roles: Annemarie and Bre will be co-teaching this lesson. Other teachers will deal with behavioral problems during the lesson.
