Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection NAEYC Standard: STANDARD 4.

USING DEVELOPMENTALLY EFFECTIVE

APPROACHES
Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs understand that teaching and learning with young children is a complex enterprise, and its details vary depending on childrens ages, characteristics, and the settings within which teaching and learning occur. They understand and use positive relationships and supportive interactions as the foundation for their work with young children and families. Candidates know, understand, and use a wide array of developmentally appropriate approaches, instructional strategies, and tools to connect with children and families and positively influence each childs development and learning. (NAEYC, 2010)

Brief Description of Evidence:

As part of my ECED 243 Cognitive Curriculum course, during the fall semester of 2013, we focused on how to compound all of the information we had learned and all of our knowledge to put developmentally appropriate and effective approaches into our classroom. We were asked to crate a container full of fifteen different teacher-made activities that were appropriate to a specific age group.

Analysis of What I Learned:

Through completion of the Engage the Brain Project, I learned how to effectively assemble a box full of teacher made activities that used all different domains of child development. I have now gained the ability to incorporate many different learning styles, ability levels, and how the classroom environment allows a child to learn. I have learned how to build positive relationships with the children and have the ability to prepare developmentally appropriate materials for the classroom.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:

This artifact demonstrates my competence in the Using Developmentally Effective Approaches standard by displaying my ability to complete and compile material for my classroom that is developmentally appropriate for the childrens age, characteristics, and the setting we are teaching in. Through this I was able to implement two of these activities and build supportive and positive relationships with my students through them.
