David Warren invented the black box flight recorder in the 1950s which records flight data and cockpit conversations. This invention is now required on all commercial airplanes and has helped investigators determine the causes of many air crashes. Warren was inspired to create the black box after his father died in a plane crash when Warren was 10 years old in 1935.
