Significance of Women (Sigw)
As children when we are made to learn science at school, we are taught that cells are the basic building blocks of life. All life forms originate from the cell. Using this childhood definition, I would like to draw an analogy to women. The basic units of societies are women. A woman makes a family, family makes a home and homes together make a society. A woman dons a number of roles at the same time from being a mother, a daughter, a sister, a boss, a worker, managing each with great responsibility in upbringing a rock solid society. In the Indian context, as we move from being an agrarian economy where families considered the male child to be more important who would carry their farming business forward, we have become at power to the developed nations and no more the male member of the family is called the sole bread winner. We can now see women employed in all fields not only in clerical obs but also in I.A.!., I.".!. and Indian Air #orce. There are reservations in legislatures also. There are $hief %inisters who are women. We had a lady "rime %inister. The $entral &overnment has introduced a bill in "arliament reserving one third of the seats in "arliament and other elected bodies for women. In the fast moving times, the male dominated societies have changed their perspective of seeing women as ust ob ects of beauty and lust and woman are getting their rights which were removed as their prerogatives at one point of time. The world has reali'ed that a woman(s contribution is much more than that of ust cooking food. !he inculcates values in the leaders of tomorrow that is the youth, she handles the family and thus
improves )uality of lifestyle, she contributes to the workforce and is an important half of the society.
