Designer babies are becoming more and more important in our society.

Would you like the option to virtually select all your child's cosmetic features? Would you prefer brown hair or blonde? Tall or short? Funny or clever? Some parents decide to "create" their children. Designer babies have pros and cons, are made very uniquely, and are becoming very important to society. ! ! There are many pros and cons to designer children. The process of creating a designer baby is questioned by many. Cons to this process include If the process is not done carefully, the embryo could be accidentally terminated. The technology that is used is not completely safe yet. Parents may use this technology for appearance purposes only. It also could create a gap in society and there are already enough "cliques" in our modern schools. Designer babies would most likely be better looking or smarter. This could create classes between designer and non designer babies. Some pros to designer children are it installs a better understanding of genetics for genealogists and biologists. It also increases human life span up to 30 years and allows parents to give their children a healthy life. The use of designer babies also prevents genetic diseases such as down syndrome, Alzheimers, Huntingtons Disease, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, and many others. This pro is the main reason some parents chose to "design" their child.! ! Designer children are made very uniquely. They are created using InVitro Fertilization. Using this technique, doctors can fertilize the egg with sperm inside the laboratory using a test tube. Genetics is the reason for people acquiring di"erent traits and characteristics. There are many steps that need to be taken to create a designer baby. First, doctors create an embryo with IVF. Second, a single cell from that embryo is removed within the rst 5 days of creation. Thirdly, doctors genetically test the cell. And lastly, the parents decide whether to discard the embryo or implant it in the mother's womb. ! ! ! ! ! ! !

! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! Designer children are becoming more important to society as our knowledge in technology increases. Designer children could create a gap in society and there are already enough "cliques" in our modern schools. Designer babies would most likely be better looking or smarter. This could create classes between designer and non designer babies. Also, as our technology increases, scientists are able to nd so many new discoveries about genetics.! ! Designer babies have pros and cons, are made very uniquely, and are becoming very important to society. With rapid advances in scientic knowledge of the human genome and our increasing ability to modify and change genes, this scenario of "designing" your baby could well be possible in the near future. Do you think parents should virtually be able to create their children? ! ! ! !
