Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection NAEYC Standard:

STANDARD 6. BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs identify and conduct themselves as members of the early childhood profession. They know and use ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to early childhood practice. They are continuous, collaborative learners who demonstrate knowledgeable, reflective and critical perspectives on their work, making informed decisions that integrate knowledge from a variety of sources. They are informed advocates for sound educational practices and policies (NAEYC, 2011).

Brief Description of Evidence:


To work as a team member in an Early Childhood Education Practicum classroom. Obtained seven years of experience as a teachers aide in an Exception Student Education (ESE) classroom dealing with students in grades K-5. As a student, I achieved acceptance in the Phi Theta Kappa honor society by achieving and maintaining a 3.5 or above GPA in my Early Childhood Education Program.

Analysis of What I Learned:


By being a practicum student in an Early Childhood classroom, I was able to learn more about how the NAEYC code of ethics and the Foundations work within the classroom. I reinforced my understanding of the importance of being a team member; and in working with certified teachers that have extensively taught in Early Childhood education. I have increased my professionalism by learning the use of ethical guidelines and other professional standards related to early childhood practice.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:


I promote and understand the professionalism of teaching, and what is expected of a teacher of Early Childhood children. Through my studies, I have learned to apply the standards of ethics that are required of a teaching professional. Through my seven years of experience in the classroom as a teachers aide, I learned and observed, as well as put into practice, the ethical guidelines and best practices outlined in the NAEYC standard.
