This project consists of four parts. Part 1 involves reading and understanding the principles on materials selection and adaptation. Part 2 integrates the planning of a 60- minute lesson and designing the appropriate teaching and learning materials for the lesson. Part 3 concerns the design of a check list to evaluate the teaching and learning materials. Part 4 entails a reflection of the e perience and value of the !hole assignment. The selection of teaching and learning materials is an integral part of curriculum planning and deliver" in schools. #hildren and students come into contact !ith a vast arra" of print$ visual and multimedia materials in their dail" lives. %ducators have a dut" of care to ensure that the teaching and learning materials !ith !hich children and students are presented$ or to!ards !hich the" are directed$ are appropriate to their developmental gro!th and relevant to the achievement of appropriate learning outcomes & 'epartment of %ducation and #hildren(s )ervices$ 2004*. +fter , had done m" course!ork$ , gained a lot of ne! kno!ledge regarding to the development of teaching materials. -esides the teachers( .ualifications and the school facilities$ another important determinant of .ualit" of education is the teaching and learning materials. ,t is essential for .ualit" materials to /e made availa/le to the teachers and pupils in ade.uate .uantities to support the teaching and learning processes. Teaching aids are important to the teachers /ecause the" !ould help them to e plain more to the students. 0e are re.uired to complete four tasks. The first task is a group!ork !here !e have to find and read four articles on principles of materials selection and adaptation from a variet" of sources . +fter !e have select the articles$ !e have to use our computer skills to present the information in the form of short notes using suita/le graphic organiser.+s a group$ m" friends and , decided to have t!o mind maps for each other. , choose one articles from the internet and one from a /ook !hile m" friend$ 1g did on t!o articles from the internet. 0hile creating the mind map /ased on the articles and the /ook that , have read reall" opens m" e"es that there are a lot of different materials that , could use in m" lesson. The materials also have their o!n implication to the lesson. ,t !ill affect the teaching st"les and the learning st"les of the pupils. The second task is an individual task !here , have to develop some teaching aids for a lesson plan. 2ere , have to plan and !rite a lesson plan for a 60 minute lesson /ased on the 3))4 s"lla/us. -esides that$ , have to adapt$ design and e ploit the teaching and learning materials for the lesson planned. , also have to e plicit the teaching and learning materials produced for the lesson , have provided. Planning and designing a lesson is not a ne! area of learning to us as !e have /een practicing in planning a lesson for these five semester alread". -" doing this task$ it helps me to improve m" !a" in designing lesson plan that meets !ith the re.uirement needed especiall" /" considering the factors of materials selection and the
student5s level and a/ilities in learning %nglish su/ject . -efore this$ , thought that the purpose of having material for a lesson is to add a fun and more hands on e perience to the learning. , never thought that , could have a reall" /ig impact to the lesson that it could change the st"le of teaching and learning. , also never contemplate the possi/ilit" that the pupils !ill have pro/lem in using a material that , have design for a lesson due to the fact that it didn5t suit their proficienc" level. The third task is designing a checklist to evaluate the teaching and learning materials for the lesson that , have plan /efore . This task is a group!ork. Preparing the checklist is a ne! scope for me and m" partner to learn. ,t is .uite hard /ecause !e have to reall" understand the lesson plan and relate it !ith the factors in selection and evaluation of teaching materials. The last part is !riting a critical reflection in a/out 600 7 1000 !ords on the e perience and value of the !hole assignment. Teaching and learning materials are ver" important to %nglish language teachers. The uses of teaching and learning materials are the /est teaching aids !hich can help our pupils to understand !hat !e are teaching. The lesson !ill /e more effectives and interesting to the learners. +s a conclusion$ from doing this assignment , have learned that selecting and adapting a material is not something to take lightl". 0e need to consider some /asic principles in order to get the /est material that !e can. , also found that having the checklist is reall" helpful. ,t help to guide and reminds me to check and add on not just functionalit" to the teaching aids that , develop /ut also makes it meaningful and /eneficial to m" lesson .
