El modo subjuntivo:
PART I

What is el modo subjuntivo?

Except for command forms, all of the verb forms you have learned so far are part of the indicative mood, el modo indicativo. In both Spanish and English, the indicative mood is used to state facts and ask questions. Today we will begin talking about the subjunctive mood, el modo subjuntivo. First we will focus on the forms of the subjunctive, then we will learn more about the concepts associated with it.

It is very important that you copy the following information into your notes. Be very careful that you write down the forms correctly.

The Subjunctive Mood

The subjunctive mood is used: 1. when the sentence has more than one clause, and 2. the subjects in the two clauses are different Ejemplos:

Mi pap quiere que yo estudie ms.

Es necesario que t estudies ms.

Notice that the two clauses of the sentences are connected by the word que. The verb following que is in the present subjunctive.

Forming the subjunctive of -AR verbs

For most verbs, the present subjunctive is formed by removing the o of the yo form and adding the opposite ending.
