NIFF Themes and Prizes

The NUST Islamic Film Festival is calling for submissions on one of two themes: [1] a social issue faced by society or [2] an issue concerning an individual. Example topics are provided in areas like corruption, women's status, family relationships, and purpose in life. Submissions should highlight the problem, discuss causes and solutions, and avoid controversial issues. Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 positions, ranging from Rs. 5000 for first place to a USB for 4th to 10th places. All entrants will receive a certificate. The top 15 videos will be screened at NUST.

THEMES AND PRIZES Theme


Keeping in mind the theme for this years competition, the video should highlight and discuss either 1. a social issue (a problem faced by society), OR 2. an issue concerning an individual

Example Topics:
Selecting an appropriate topic is one of the first steps to making a prize-winning film. All participants are advised to take great care while coming up with a topic for their video, and to ensure that it is consistent with the content/storyline of their short film. To help you in your topic-selection process, the following list of example topics has been produced. Note: It is NOT compulsory to pick one of these topics. These have merely been compiled so as to give the participants an idea of the kind of topics they may select.

1. A social issue (a problem faced by society):


Corruption & Cheating i. Day-to-Day Dealings ii. At the Professional/National Level The current moral void in society Status of Women in Islam and current society Gap between Parents and Teenagers: Consequences (Depression, Involvement in Drugs & Immoral Activities) Difficulties Imposed in the Way of Marriage (and the relative Ease of Engaging in Illicit Relationships) How to Bring the Required Positive Change in Society. Islamic Renaissance: The Real Task Ahead

Holding Firmly to the Rope of Allah: Muslim Unity and Brotherhood

2. An issue concerning an individual:


My Purpose of Life Islamic Virtues i. Honesty ii. Patience iii. Empathy and Selflessness Psychological Issues Faced by University/College Students Love and Relationships i. Teenage Love ii. A Girlfriend or a Wife? iii. Parents Role Connection with the Quran

The video should preferably highlight the problem in an intuitive manner, and must also try to discuss the causes and the solution for the problem. Highly controversial or sectarian issues ought to be avoided.

Prizes
1st Prize: Rs. 5000 2nd Prize: Rs. 3000 3rd Prize: Rs. 2000 4th to 10th position holders will be awarded with a USB for their efforts! All entrants will receive a certificate of participation. The best fifteen videos will be shortlisted and screened at NUST, approximately two weeks after submission.
