Research Assistant
Fall 2013-Present
Research student to Dr. Gwilym Haynes.
Overall research involves using Next Generation Sequencing technologies to study
chromosomal inversions and improve the genome assembly in D. pseudoobscura.
Main responsibilities involve gene annotation using the software Genious and will
include laboratory work in the upcoming months

Senior Thesis
Fall 2013-Present
Senior thesis working with advisor Dr. Tim Bralower
Research includes analyzing a core from the Paleocene Eocene Thermal Maximum in
order to study environmental conditions during this time that led to the extinction of
benthic foraminifera
Responsibilities include preparation of smear slides and analysis under a microscope
in order to study benthic and planktonic foraminifera ratios and stable isotope studies
for temperature determination

Research Assistant
Fall 2012-Spring 2013
Research Assistant to Dr. Susan Brantley and graduate student Joe Orlandos
research on the Luquillo Critical Zone Observatory in Puerto Rico at Penn State
Research aims to study the how the earth's surface from vegetation canopy to
groundwater evolves in time
Used laboratory techniques such as performing sulfur measurements, splitting and
grinding samples for further analysis, measuring bulk density, and preparing sample
for XRD
Applied essential skills such as organization, precision, and safety in a laboratory
setting

Professional Experience
Field Camp with The Pennsylvania State University
June 2013-July2013
Three weeks in Utah, Wyoming, and Montana performing geological
tasks, creating maps, and writing reports
Work included creating stratigraphic columns from observations in the field,
analyzing the geologic setting and evolution through time, and creating geologic
maps in ARC GIS

Community/University Service
Beehouse subchair and member
Fall 2011-present
Raise money for the Four Diamonds fund at Hershey Medical Center, which supports
the fight against pediatric cancer
Work year round with and support a Four Diamonds family of a child with pediatric
cancer
Participate in a special interest organization named Bee House with which I work
year round to raise money through canning, collecting donations, and various other
fundraising methods
Hold a two subchair positions which help to organize the meeting and make sure
THON weekend runs smoothly for our organization
