In Germany 60%, France 45%. London grew from 2.7 million to 6.6 million in fifty years (1850-1900). New York grew from 64,000 to 3.4 million in one hundred years (1800-1900). Urban Environment London, New York and Chicago were fast growing cities, where people arrived so quickly, that housing construction and municipal services couldn't keep up. Neighborhoods became over crowded and cities were divided into commercial, industrial and residential zones all occupied by different social classes. Thanks to urban environments, air pollution dramatically increased.
