Internal organism: seeking psychological cause

Metaphorical approach: explains mental states
(anger, fear, curiosity, love etc.)

1. Life orientation theory (Stuart Atkin:1981)
based on life experiences develop preferences /
behavior
2. Social learning theory (Julian Rotter 1954, 1982) :
behavior contingent upon positive outcome and
value of outcome
3. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (Briggs & Briggs
Myers: 1977)
4. Social styles (Merrill and Reid 1981 expanded by
Wilson Learning Corporation 1989): learned and
developed in childhood understanding styles
help improves interpersonal relations

5. Value Programing (Morris Massey 1979): values programmed into
each person and begin around age ten
6. Eight ages of man (Erik Erikson 1963):
a)stage-1: characteristics of infants (fed and cared for)
b) stage-2: grow independent assertive
c) stage-3: initiatives & motivation
d) stage-4: development of virtue of competence, not
dominates rather try to gain consent / approval;
e) stage-5: separate entity adult identities
f) stage-6: intimate relations
g) stage-7: guiding next generations;
lh) stage=8: self actualization, order, discipline, existence
