This document defines airmanship and presents an airmanship model. Airmanship is the skill and knowledge of operating aircraft, including pre- and post-flight actions. The airmanship model consists of three bedrock principles - discipline, skill, and proficiency. It also includes five pillars of knowledge - self, aircraft, team, environment, and risk. The two capstone outcomes are situational awareness and judgement. The model is intended to help instructors teach and demonstrate airmanship to students through role modeling during flight lessons. Key aspects of airmanship include following procedures, flying accurately, understanding limitations and risks, and making sound decisions.
