Theme: World of Stories

Topic : Prepositions (above, below, beside)


Content standard : 5.1 By the end of the 6- year primary schooling, pupils will be able to use
different word classes correctly and appropriately.
Learning Standard(s) : 5.1.5 (a)(b) (c)
Objectives: Pupils should be able to
i. Put the objects according to the prepositions given
ii. Follow simple instructions to produce a simple draw.
iii. Write 6 simple sentences correctly using the prepositions
Time: 60 minutes
Teaching aids: box, soft toys, wheel of preposition, mahjong paper, worksheets
Cross curricular element/Educaional emphasis: creativity / multiple intelligence (visual)
Activities/Steps:
Presentation
1. Recap with pupils what happened at the end of the Four Friends story they had
learnt in their previous lesson.
2. Teacher put the soft toys of the characters on the table and gets the pupils to put the
toys according to the end of the story.
3. Teacher introduces and demonstrates prepositions(above, below, beside) to the
pupils using the box and soft toys.
4. Teacher explains on the differences between on and above, below and under.
5. Pupils put the soft toys according to the prepositions given.
Practice
1. Teacher puts up a Wheel of Prepositions on the board.
2. Pupils need to spin the wheel. When it stops, they have to take a soft toy and put it
according to the preposition pointed on the wheel.
3. Pupils have to come out with a complete sentence using the preposition.
a. The cat is above the box.
b. The donkey is beside the dog
c. The dog is below the desk.
4. Other pupils take turn to do the activity.



Production
1. Pupils sit in group of four.
2. Pupils need to listen to the teacher and draw according to the instructions.
a. Draw a rectangle in the middle of the paper.
b. Draw a triangle above the rectangle.
c. Draw three circles beside the rectangle.
3. Pupils presents their works to the class.
4. Teacher distributes worksheets to the pupils.
