The purpose of this simulation is to explore how resources ar
e used when shared by
multiple parties.

Goldfish crackers
Plastic bowls (lakes)

Divide into roups of !"#. $ach roup should sit in a circle aro
und the %lake%. The oal of
this activity is to see how each of you will behave when resou
rces are not privately
owned.
$ach one of you represents the head of a family that is starv
in. &n order for your
family to survive' you must catch enouh fish for them to eat
. The only food source is a
small local lake that can accommodate (# fish. )ou must fish
by suckin up the %fish%
from the %lake% with straws.
)ou will all fish for a year (which lasts *+ seconds) and each
time you fish you may take
up to ! fish from the lake. It is yo&r choice of ho' many f
ish yo& ta(e) ho'eer) if
yo& on*y ta(e one fish) yo&r fami*y 'i** stare+ &f you take
more than , fish' you can
sell them for a profit. The fish in your lake will reproduce on
ce a year. -See your teacher
