Watts Towers

Located in the Watts Community of Los Angeles,


California, the Watts Towers are a collection of 17 structures
with the highest reaching over 99 feet tall. The towers were
built by an Italian immigrant by the name of Sabato Rodia. It
took Sabato Rodia over 33 years to build the towers between
the years 1921-1954. The towers are made up of steel, tile,
glass, bottles, seashells, mirrors, and much more. Sabato Rodia
often walked over 20 miles in search of materials for the
towers. Watts Towers were named National Historic
Landmarks in the year 1990.
Statue of Liberty


















The Statue of Liberty is located in Manhattan, New
York on Liberty Island. She stands 305 feet tall. The
Statue of Liberty was a gift from France on October 28,
1886. The statue holds a torch in one hand and a book
of law in the other hand and has broken chains at her
feet. The statue represents freedom and is a sign to
welcome immigrants arriving from abroad. The statue
is the Roman goddess of freedom wearing a robe. The
statue is said to weigh over 225 tons! Thats the same
weight as around 45 elephants!



Mount Rushmore National Memorial














The Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a
sculpture carved onto Mount Rushmore in Keystone,
South Dakota. It was sculpted by Danish-American
Gutzon Borglum and his son Lincoln Borglum. The faces
that appear in the sculpture are all presidents of the
United States of America. The first is George
Washington, next is Thomas Jefferson, Then Theodore
Roosevelt, and finally Abraham Lincoln. The sculpture
was started in 1927 and was finished in 1939. Mount
Rushmore represents the greatness of U.S. Presidents.
There are nearly 3 million visitors every year that see
Mount Rushmore.

Cloud Gate














Also called The Bean, Cloud Gate is a public
sculpture located in Chicago, Illinois. The artist
who created The Bean is an Indian-born British
artist by the name of Anish Kapoor. The sculpture
was created between 2004-2006. The Bean is
famous for its shiny surface that is similar to a
mirror. Visitors are allowed to walk under and
around the sculpture. The sculpture is made from
stainless steel and weighs 110 tons which is the
same as 22 elephants!

Gateway Arch















The Gateway Arch is a monument located in
St. Louis Missouri. The Gateway Arch is made of
stainless steel and is the tallest man-made
monument in the United States and the worlds
tallest arch. Completed in 1965, the arch was
designed by Finnish-American architect Eero
Saarinen and German-American structural
engineer Hannskarl Bandel. The Gateway Arch is a
symbol for westward expansion of the United
States.
