Course Objective: Information Systems (IS) enables new approaches to improve efficiency and efficacy of business models. This course will equip the students with understanding of role, advantages and components of an Information System. The objective of the course is to help students integrate their learning from functional areas, decision making process in an organization and role of Information Systems to have a vintage point in this competitive world.
Pre-requisite: For studying this course a student should have through understanding of information technology and information system and should know the various technologies used in organization for information flow

Module I: Information Systems In Business and Decision Support Process in Business Business Process, and role of Information Systems in Business Processes , Types of Management Support Systems,( Transaction Processing System, Management Information System, Decision Support Systems, Executive Support Systems and Strategic Information Systems, Components of Information Systems, Centralized and Decentralized Information Systems .Role of Information in Decision Making Process, Steps in Decision Making , Levels of Decision Making , Types of Decision (Structured , Semi structured & Non Structured Decisions ) .
Module II: Knowledge Management Concepts Introduction to KM, KM myths, understanding knowledge , Types of knowledge, Knowledge management system life cycle , Introduction to the models of knowledge management . Concept and Characteristics of Knowledge Based Organizations. Managing Knowledge for organizational effectiveness- Process and Methods; Concept of Intellectual Capital and Learning Orientation in the Organizations; Knowledge and Role related issues
Module III: KM and technology related with it Technology behind KM, Implementation of KM in an organizations, Various parameters of implementation, Expert Systems, various knowledge capturing techniques. Knowledge transfer in e-world and its related concepts .
Module IV: Data warehouse: Architecture to implementation Introduction to DWH, Data in data warehouse, Architecture of DWH, Data warehouse design, Justifying the data warehouse, Implementation of DWH, Business intelligence, Data warehouse and MIS Case study on data ware house to store and transfer knowledge
Learning outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: Identify and understand role of knowledge to make and organization profitable Through understanding of various ways for protecting human capital, intellectual capital and structural capital in business.
