Communication is a dynamic process. It goes way beyond the words we say.

Many people interchange


the words communication, language, and speech; but these terms are not synonymous. Speech refers to
the actual words or sounds that are coming from your mouth. Language is the grammar, meaning and
ability to use the words you have. When people talk about language, they are referring to both verbal and
non-verbal language. Communication encompasses both language and speech, but it is more than that. It
is the ability to share thoughts and experiences in a meaningful way while taking in, processing, and
responding to the person you are talking with.
Systematic using a careful system or method : done according to a system
contextual a definition in which the meaning of a word, expression, or symbol is partly or wholly
determined by defining the meaning of a larger expression containing the definiendum (as a definition

Interpersonal communication is irreversible
You can't really take back something once it has been said. The effect must inevitably remain. Despite the
instructions from a judge to a jury to "disregard that last statement the witness made," the lawyer knows
that it can't help but make an impression on the jury. A Russian proverb says, "Once a word goes out of
your mouth, you can never swallow it again."

Symbolic Interactionism, formulated by Blumer (1969) is the process of interaction in the formation of
meanings for individuals. The inspiration for this theory came from Dewey (1981), which believed that
human beings are best understood in a practical, interactive relation to their environment.
