Psychology is the scientific study of human behavior and the human mind
and its mental processes. Its goal is to describe, explain, predict, and control
certain behaviors: to describe what is happening, to explain why it is happening,
to predict whether it will happen again in the future or not, and to control the
behavior i.e. to change it.
There are arguments of psychology being a science or not. A science is
called such if it follows the scientific method. And since psychology makes us of
such method, it is safe to say that it is a science. Because like every science,
psychology has theories and hypotheses, which are tested by experiments,
leading to a conclusion and replication of the experiment. And like every science,
psychology has different perspectives, various subcategories, notable pioneers,
etc.
What makes it a very interesting science is that everybody in the world can
easily relate to it. Chemical reactions and fundamental forces are relatable too,
but human behavior is a very basic thing that can be seen in everyday life.
