Heat Exch Design

This document provides details on the design of a heat exchanger for transferring heat from methanol at 90°C to water at 20°C. Key specifications and calculations are shown, including a heat load of 5325 kW, 403 tubes per pass, tube and shell side heat transfer coefficients of 4007 W/m2°C and 2998 W/m2°C respectively, and a required heat exchanger area of 193.5 m2 with an actual area of 244.6 m2 allowing for 26.1% excess area. Pressure drops of 7495 N/m2 and 258,184 N/m2 are also calculated for the tube and shell sides.
