This document outlines a conventional milling project for students. The objectives are to introduce students to conventional milling machining and to transfer engineering drawing skills to fabricating a part using engineering technology tools. Each student will be given a metal block to machine. The requirements include reviewing safety procedures, producing a process chart, and machining a part that meets specified dimensional and quality tolerances. The procedures involve studying the provided drawing, process planning, cutting the stock material, layout, machining, and submitting for grading.

JAN 2013 SMD 24202: WORKSHOP ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY ARC 4
CONVENTIONAL MILLING PROJECT
OBJECTIVES: 1. Introduce students to conventional milling machining. 2. Transfer engineering drawing skills to fabricate part by means of engineering technology skills, tools and apparatus.
MATERIAL: Each student will be given metal block (aluminum/mild steel) to fabricate into an approved product. Actual approximate Dimension: 100mm x 50mm x 30mm (L x W x T)
REQUIREMENTS, CRITERIA AND FORMAT: Students are required to review and familiarize relative workshop tools, safety procedures, instructor/technician demonstrations before engaging in this project. All written work must be reviewed, typed and mistake proved. Each student must produce the following within the activity time schedule provided: 1. Process Planning Documents: a. Process Chart 2. A product approved by instructor/technician to meet the following product quality attributes: a. All specified product dimensions to be within 0.5mm tolerance. b. Overall finish (burr, dents, wraps, roughness, etc.) c. Product functionality (functional, completeness, durability, sits flat when assembled)
