Why We Compress The Air in Gas Turbine???

Air is compressed in gas turbines to improve combustion efficiency and extract more work from the system. Compressing cold air requires less work than expanding hot air produces in the turbine, providing excess work to drive a generator, pump, compressor, fan, propeller or produce thrust. Compressing air first allows heating it in the combustor then expanding it in the turbine to generate power for the compressor and additional output work.

why we compress the air in gas turbine???

Air compression is needed for better firing in the gt. You get more work from expanding hot air than you
need to compress cold air. So by compressing cold air then adding heat in the combustor and expanding
it again in the turbine you get enough work from the turbine to drive the compressor plus some more work
available to drive a generator, pump, gas compressor, fan, propellor and/or produce jet thrust depending
on the application you wish to use the gas turbine for.
