Swine flu is a respiratory disease in pigs caused by influenza A viruses that occasionally infect humans. The 2009 outbreak was caused by a new H1N1 strain derived from human, avian, and swine influenza viruses. Symptoms in people are like regular flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, and body aches. It spreads from person to person through sneezing or coughing. High risk groups include children, healthcare workers, and those with chronic conditions. Prevention focuses on proper hand washing, wearing masks, drinking warm fluids, and consulting a doctor for antiviral medication if needed.
