Bluetooth Technology: The Wave of Future Presented By:-Parveen Kumar 03-ECE-1629

This document summarizes the history and characteristics of Bluetooth technology. It discusses how Bluetooth was developed in 1994 by Ericsson to provide a low-cost, low-power interface between mobile devices and accessories. The technology transfers data at speeds up to 721 kbps and can connect up to 8 devices in a piconet or scatternet. While Bluetooth has a limited range of 10-100 meters and lower accuracy than technologies like GPS, it has advantages such as low implementation costs and ability to operate in noisy environments. Its main competitor is IrDA, but Bluetooth has advantages over infrared transmission standards.

THE WAVE OF FUTURE

PRESENTED BY:-
PARVEEN KUMAR
03-ECE-1629
History of Bluetooth
Characteristics
Bluetooth Hardware
Bluetooth Networking
Differences b/w Bluetooth,GSM & GPS
Advantages
Disadvantages
Competitors of Bluetooth
In 1994 a study initiated at Erricson Mobile
Communications to find a low cost and low power
interface between mobiles and its accessories.
Erricsson mobile communications, Intel, IBM, Toshiba
and Nokia phones formed a Special Interest Group (SIG)
in 1998.

The name game: whose teeth are blue?

It comes from a tenth century Scandinavian King, Harald
Bluetooth who managed to unite several unruly
kingdoms.

Frequency : 2.4 GHz
Distance : 10m(there are solutions for
100m)
Data rate up to 721 kbps
Up to three voice channels
Power consumption: about 30W.
Mobile Phone Dongle Printer
Adapter
Bluetooth Networking
Bluetooth Definitions:-
Piconet:- Two to eight devices can
connect to form a so called
Piconet.
Scatternet:- Several piconets may
connect to form a Sactternet.
Master unit:-The administrator of a
piconet.
Slave unit:- Units other than
master unit.
Mac address:-Identity of the unit.
Data Transmission
Data can be transferred by
two ways:

Synchronous Connection
Oriented (SCO) which is
primarily used for voice.
Asynchronous
Connection Less (ACL)
which is primarily used for
data.

Difference Between Bluetooth, GSM and
GPS
Bluetooth on the other hand is capable of
transferring data at the speed of 721 Kbps,
which enables it to deliver much richer
content to the users.
Cost of implementation is easy
Low operating cost
Good in noisy environment
Can operate through walls

Low Accuracy
Cost proportional to number of users
Connectivity time is high
Limited Range (10m to 100m)

Competitors with Bluetooth
There are some technology which are
competing Bluetooth in market. But the
main competitor in this market is IrDA(
Infrared Data Association).

But this to has some weak points in front
of Bluetooth.
