Materials for class
You will need:
Blue or black pen
Pencils
Loose-leaf paper
1 -2 inch ring binder with dividers
(**throughout the year you may need other supplies from home to complete or enhance projects and
presentations!)
If you have these items at home, please bring and turn in:
markers
colored pencils
tissues
hand sanitizer
Your Binder
In this class, you are required to keep a binder that you will bring with you daily. The best approach is to learn
how to organize it and keep it that way. The binder format is explained:

Organize your:
1. Syllabus (this paper)
2. PESOS
3. Dividers (labeled in Spanish as follows)
Primeros (warm-ups)
Vocabulario
Apuntes (notes)
Trabajo/Tarea
Pesos
You will be given pesos each semester in this class. There are also opportunities that you can earn them throughout the
year through participation.

You can use your pesos to:
Go to the bathroom
Go to your locker
Go to the water fountain
Cancel a tardy

However, if you save your pesos you can:
Turn them in at the end of the semester to add 1 point (per peso) to your semester exam grade! You must turn
them in on the day of the semester exam or as instructed. Unused pesos will NOT be accepted after the day of
your exam to enhance your grade.
**Lost pesos will not be replaced. It is your responsibility to keep track of them and use them at appropriate times!
Grading Procedures
Major grades = 50% Daily grades = 50%
-exams -quizzes
-participation -homework
-projects/presentations (may also be major grade)
-oral proficiency tests -classwork
-other assignments

Participation
This is a class in which participation is essential to
learning. Therefore, you will be graded on your
participation in class. There will be many opportunities
to jump in and get involved, but how often is up to you.
You are required to speak Spanish every day in the
classroom and your best effort is expected at all times.
Be proactive and timely about your learning!

Homework
Homework must be turned in when called for or late
grades will be incurred. If it is not turned in then no
credit is earned. All homework is expected to appear in
your binder for further reference and studying.
Homework may be graded for accuracy, or completion,
or participation points. Homework is meant for practice,
and so you are allowed to make mistakes. Your own original
work and best effort is required.

If you have questions or need help you need to take
personal initiative to schedule tutorials.

**If there is no homework assigned, you are still
expected to practice your Spanish skills each day outside
of class every day. You should find as many ways as
you can to incorporate Spanish into your daily life in
and outside of school in order to optimize your abilities
and advance your skills. You should review notes, study
vocab, and do independent practice daily!

Late work Credit will be lost for late assignments.
Should you choose to turn in a graded assignment past
the deadline, you will lose points each day until the
assignment is completed. Per school policy:

1 day late: 10 points off
2 days late: 20 points off
3 days late: 30 points off
4 days late: no higher than 50 for final grade,
depending on quality

AbsencesIf you are absent from class it is your
responsibility to discuss with the teacher what you
missed and make up all missing assignments and notes
from class.

Learning Spanish is a fascinating opportunity for you to experience another culture and build skills needed for success in
the future. As always, take risks in learning the language and do not be afraid to make errors! They are a part of success!
If you are open-minded and let go of your worries, you are going to do very well! Lets have a wonderful year! Ol!
The use of electronic translators (Google, Alta Vista, etc) is PROHIBITED. I want to monitor YOUR
progress in Spanish. Therefore, it is crucial you do your own work at all times. In other words, say
what you know how to say and write what you know how to write. Using translators or Spanish
speakers will result in an automatic 0 for the assignment and a discipline referral.
