September 2014 The Rev.

Salin Low, Rector

St. Johns mission is to nurture all people in their spiritual growth, in their Christian education,
and in their relationship with God.
of St. Johns in Pine Meadow of St. Johns in Pine Meadow

A time for new things
It is natural for all of us who have known each
other for several years to reminisce about some of
the memorable times weve shared. I have been
incredibly honored to be part of many of your
milestone events during my time among you. And
you have shared milestones in Bills and my life
as well.
My coming retirement brings mixed feelings
for many of us - sadness at parting and anxiety
about the future to be sure. But I hope those are
not our overriding emotions. I have been touched
by the good wishes I have received from so many
of you.
And I want to assure you that I have the same
good wishes for youand more. You are a won-
derful parish. You have strong leaders in the war-
dens, vestry members, and committee chairs. You
have supported the development of the Godly Play
curriculum and space, which was well received
last year and is ready for expansion in the coming
year. The fabric of the building is strong. You
have a new roof, new lighting and plantings in the
garden, and plans to paint the front of the church
in September. All of these things will serve you
well during the transition and will support the ex-
citing ministry you share with a new priest.
I appreciate all the ways you have supported
me and my ministry among you, and Im grateful
for the opportunities I will have in the next few
weeks to say thank you. Your concern and your
help over the years have been so important and
have made it possible for our ministry together to
bear a great deal of sweet fruit.
Im looking forward to having time to do new
things - Im sure there are possibilities awaiting
me that I havent even imagined. I am also look-
ing forward to hearing of the wonderful new
things you are doing in your ministry, sharing in
the vision of a new leader.
As faithful Christians we are assured that each
ending contains within it a wonderful new begin-
ning. This is a time for new things for all of us!

The basement of the addition is starting to fill up
with tag sale items!! Contact Diane Hayes at 860-309
-3077 or 860-379-7612 to drop off items. You may
also bring items during parish office hours. Items can
also be placed in the shed behind the walkway. Call
the office to get the combination for the lock. No
items are to be put in the basement of the church!

Martha Busemeyer will be coordinating the creation of
collective artworks to be sold or auctioned. Lucie
Martocchio will be coordinating the sale of baked
goods. If you can donate any jams/jellies, pickles,
canned items or baked goods, please let her know.
We are expanding our program to accommodate our
new families and our older young people by adding a
second class of Godly Play. On September 28, those in
grades 4-8 will meet to work on a project. Beginning
October 5 through Epiphany, they will meet on the
first and third Sundays of the month. On other Sun-
days they will participate in our worship or join the
primary class. All young people will meet together
on September 14. Letters and registration forms
will be mailed in early September.
With these changes we are looking for 3 or 4 more
individuals who would be willing to join our storytell-
ers and doorkeepers, so that each leader will assist
Godly Play once every 4-6 weeks, allowing leaders to
worship on other Sundays. Please contact Linda
Snyder ([email protected] ) or the office if you
are interested in being part of this exciting program!
Note: Forms and other information will be available
at: reddoors.com or reddoorschildren.weebly.com.

A Lofty Goal
Greetings from the Paint Committee!
How about September 13?

This year, we are back to tackling painting the front of
the church. We want to have a lovely presence on the
green and have a good showing for any and all poten-
tial candidates for our next priest. I am thinking per-
haps the 2nd Saturday in September, but am amenable
to other dates depending on when others are available.

This is indeed a lofty goal, literally and figuratively.
We need helpers who are comfortable on ladders; very
little ground work is needed on the front of the church.
Please give me a quick call on interest and availability
and leave a message @ (860) 693-4761. I will try to
pin down a date and time and get back to everyone at
church on the 7th. Thanks, Stan

The lighting in the garden really
shows off the beauty of the area at
night. The effect is so soft that it
seems as if its always been there!
Once again Tom Chappell, Nancy Butler, the
Wearnes, Louis Martocchio, Bob Osborne,
Rick Smith, Carl J acobs, and others made
our hamburger ministry a success. It was
also very clean, thanks to our washing sta-
tion. Did you miss your burger? Come to the
tag sale on October 4 - there will also be hot
dogs that day!!
