Year 7's are approaching high school, hence teachers use a range of assessment strate- gies in their teaching and learning sequenc- es for a wide variety of reasons. Usually in class, teachers use assessment for and as learning. This is used to inform teaching. Assessment of learning is usually the 'assessment piece' that students produce which will determine their grade for their report card. This is used for the students own record of their learning and to inform teaching for the following year. All of the activities have been designed to use assess- ment for and as learning. They can also be used for assessment of learning, however we have stated in our lesson plans what the assessment of learning could be. Actvity 1Chinese Cinderella 1) Listen to an excerpt from Chinese Cinderella and the Secret Dragon Society 2) Complete a Y chart on the feelings of the three characters in the story 3) Discuss why it is important to consider charac- ters feelings in a text Actvity 2 - Gender Representatons 1) Trace the profle of one student and divide down the middle 2) Consider the images and answer the questons on the back of the card 3) Write the answers on each side of the profle Actvity 3 Indigenous Poetry 1) Students are to read and discuss a poem writen by an Indigenous poet 2) Create a Wordle which illustrates the various themes and key ideas as expressed in the po- em 3) Groups are to compare their Wordles and dis- cuss any similarites/diferences. Actvity 4De Bonos Hats 1) Choose a coloured hat and the respectve queston card for that colour. Read the ques- tons on the card.

Cultural: The ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a society Practical Hands-on Learning Activities Australian Curriculum 2) Watch flm clip and take brief notes based on questons. 3) Present fndings to the class. Actvity 5My Place 1) Children read year 1888 page. 2) Direct student to the line -"Miss Muller says that the country is really as old as Time, and that other people were living here, long before all of us. Father says that's the kind of idea that you'd expect from a woman who goes to work in the city." 3) Using the mat provided, children write their responses and discuss them. Actvity 6 Exploring ideas and viewpoints through shadow puppetry 1) Read through both extracts and highlight key words/unfamiliar words. 2) Discuss the questons on the Task Analysis Sheet. 3) Create a short two 1 minute shadow pup- petry scenes to express the ideas and viewpoints from text 1 and text 2.
