This week we are reading Unit 1/Week 4-A Walk in

the Desert. Our class will be participating in the Pumpkin

Drop this year that is run by the high schools physics stu-
dents. Basically, each class decorates a very large box that has
been designed by the physics students. Our class also supplies
materials to put in the box to soften the impact. Please ask your
child what supplies they agreed to bring in. Pumpkins are then
dropped from a crane into the box and the class whose pumpkin
is the most intact wins. Illinois is our class state theme so please
send in anything pertaining to the state of Illinois that our class
can use to decorate our box.
Please see that your child reads every night for a mini-
mum of 20 minutes. Regarding your childs Reading goal for
this quarter, it is best to ask your child daily how they are doing
on their Reading goal. We graph our progress so that they know
how they are doing and they should be able to communicate that
progress to you.
Regarding homework, please help your child get off to
a good start with consistent completion of their homework.
Please see the Take Home folder for the weekly homework
spelling assignments on the bottom right hand side of the folder.
Your child should be coming home with a library book every
night in order to fulfill the 20 minute reading requirement (they
may also read books from source other than the library.) Please
make sure that they return the library books to school EVERY-
DAY.

Thank you for your support and have a wonderful
week.
